Early in June, the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted an inspection of all operations and care involving ICE detainees at the Kenosha County Detention Center. For our health services unit (HSU) the inspectors reviewed our suicide prevention training and response, PREA, overall medical/mental health services and intake procedures. Twenty (20) health records were reviewed in-depth along with case-by-case situations.
The ICE inspector commended the nursing staff for their care and documentation along with the organization of our patient charts. At the close out meeting, the inspector reported that he could not find one deficiency with our charts, the health care provided to the detainees or the overall HSU operations. This is an exceptional achievement in a very challenging environment. Our nurses, mental health providers and supervisors must take great pride in the fact that their hard work and quality patient care has been recognized by the federal inspectors and the Sheriff's administration.
